self care

Self care can be challenging to prioritize and fit into our lives at the best of times, nevermind during a global pandemic. It is more important now than ever to make sure we prioritize self care in order to keep our minds and bodies strong, and our stress levels as low as possible.

Caring for ourselves allows us to be at our best to care for others who may need our help and attention during this time. Let’s explore ways to incorporate self care into our days.

-Meditation

Set aside a few minutes when you wake each day to devote to meditation. This helps to start your day with a calm mind which in turn helps to more effectively manage stress and anxiety.

-Exercise

Although you may not be able to hit your favourite gym or spin class right now, there are plenty of online resources and classes you can follow along to right in your own living room. Yoga is a great place to start, or using items around your home as weights can be an easy way to get a bit of strength training in. You can still take advantage of the outdoors and go for a walk, jog or bike ride around your neighbourhood. Getting some exercise gets those feel-good endorphins going, and helps to keep our bodies and immune systems strong and does wonders for mental well being in a stressful time.

-Eat Well

Use this time to try some new recipes out and get your creative juices going in the kitchen. Eating foods such as fruit and veggies packed with vitamins help keep us feeling our best. Try Maple Organics Rose Moon Mylk each night before bed, packed full of adaptogens to effectively manage stress response in the body and help you get a good night of rest.

-Aromatherapy

Essential oils are a fantastic way to manage mood and stress. Try Maple Organics certified organic essential oil rollers in your routine. Available in lavender, grapefruit, peppermint, eucalyptus and tea tree, there’s something for everyone. Lavender is a wonderful soothing oil that can help with sleep, anxiety and can be a nice addition to a meditation routine. Peppermint eucalyptus and grapefruit are pick me ups that can help perk up low energy and mood and help you to feel refreshed.

-Activities you enjoy

This could be anything from reading, a Netflix marathon, creating art, making jewellery to doing a puzzle. Find time in your day to do something you enjoy and that makes you happy.

-Connect with Family and Friends

This is a challenge right now for obvious reasons, but calling or facetiming someone close to you and chatting with them can really boost your spirits.
